This year has already been busy for us, with conferences, steering groups, meetings with organisations working in the domestic violence and LGBT fields - not to mention attendance at Pride events, our new leaflets, posters and articles. On top of that our helpline continues with our amazing sessional workers and volunteers.
But what does the rest of 2008-2009 hold for Broken Rainbow?
We have developed plans to help raise awareness of LGBT domestic violence. Our excellent team of trainers are able to deliver specific courses to Local Authorities, private companies, other charities and small local organisations who want to improve their work with LGBT survivors and victims. We are in talks with three writers who will be producing copy, helping with press releases and writing articles for LGBT publications, mainstream press and help create new posters/leaflets.
Our CEO will continue to travel throughout the UK giving talks, workshops, training. Our London based team will carry on producing marketing, advertising, copy, web based solutions, on top of finishing a very important and in depth look into LGBT DV in certain sections of the population so we can improve our reporting. Our Brighton based team continues to work in partnership with the LGBT Committee of UNISON South East and is developing other pieces of work in the city.
What would we like to improve?
- our regional database of contacts. If you would like to help distribute our leaflets, posters, promote Broken Rainbow in your area then let us know. We are a national organisation that relies on help from volunteers across the UK.
- the diversity of our organisation as a whole.
- our ability to support victims by linking in with LGBT and domestic violence partners across the UK so that we are able to signpost victims more effectively to the right local help.
